Our Story
Polar Fox® was founded in 2007 by John Smith, a passionate entrepreneur with a vision to create durable and comfortable boots and shoes. John grew up in Maine where long winters meant high-quality footwear was a necessity. He appreciated the care and craftsmanship that went into making shoes that could withstand the elements while keeping feet warm and dry.
After college, John moved to New York City to pursue a career in business. He was astounded by the lack of thoughtfully designed cold weather boots on the market. The options were either clunky with no aesthetic appeal or flimsy boots that fell apart after one winter. John saw an opportunity to create attractive and well-made boots and shoes that fused fashion and function.
In 2007, John partnered with a small boot factory in Maine to launch the first line of Polar Fox® boots. Staying true to his roots, every material and manufacturing detail was meticulously considered to ensure the boots could perform in harsh weather yet retained a stylish silhouette. The brand saw immediate success, with the boots receiving rave reviews for their comfort and quality.
Buoyed by the enthusiastic response, John expanded the product line to include shoes and opened the first Polar Fox® retail location in New York City. The brand steadily grew over the next decade, expanding across the United States. In 2019, Polar Fox® went international with the launch of the e-commerce website, making the boots available worldwide.

The Manufacturing Process
Producing high-quality footwear is an intricate process requiring skilled artisans. Here is how our boots and shoes are crafted:
1. Design & Development
Our talented in-house design team creates collections focusing on timeless style, comfort and durability. After the sketches are complete, prototype samples are developed and rigorously tested for quality.
2. Material Selection
We use only the finest leathers and hardware that meet our stringent standards. Hides are sourced from tanneries rated for environmental practices and workers’ welfare. The materials are cut using specialized die machines.
3. Last Making
A last is the foot-shaped mold used to construct the shoe. Our lasts are expertly crafted from wood or composite materials to provide the exact fit and support for each style.
4. Cutting & Assembly
Leather parts are precisely cut then stitched together by experienced assemblers. For our Goodyear-welted shoes, the welt is attached using a specialized machine.
5. Shoe Bottoming
The sole is attached to the upper using advanced bonding, stitching or nailing techniques depending on the style. Our rubber soles are made in-house for quality control.
6. Finishing
Skilled workers apply the edge trim, laces, and hardware. A final inspection ensures the pair meets our stringent standards before being polished, packed and shipped.
